This piece was created in December of 2025 following my return to the United States from my International Residency in Mexico City.
In October, Mexico celebrates Día de Muertos where people mourn the loss of loved ones and celebrate their lives as well. This symbolism of both celebration and grief is something that I really loved, along with seeing pan de muerto in every coffee shop and panadería that I visited. I think that often times we feel like we can only feel one or the other, but both can exist together! I felt like this piece symbolized this lesson that I learned in Mexico City with the use of the pan de muerto and brought the same kind of energy that I had while creating my exhibition piece- in pink and captures the same kind of freedom in creating that I discovered during my residency.
